Caitlyn: "Porcupines have spikes and roll in balls?"
Me: "Yes."
Caitlyn: "Really?"
Me: "Really."
Caitlyn: (waving her arms in disbelief)  "Go outta da town!"

Sleep...Glorious Sleep

Last night, I went to bed at 10:00, and didn't wake up until 7:15 this morning!!  It was blissful.  Of course, at 7:15, I went into Alex's room to make sure she was still breathing, but they were nine beautiful hours.  I don't think Caitlyn has ever slept 9 hours.  It's amazing the difference a good night's sleep can make on your attitude!

pens

On the way to a friend's house for dinner

Caity: It's getting dark... it's almost bed time
Me: How about we have dinner & play with our friends first & then go to bed?
Caity: All right.

. . . long silence . . .

Caity: Do they have a pen there?
Me: I'm sure they have pens... why?
Caity: For me to sleep in.
(she meant a play pen & thought we were having a sleepover!)

The Girls

Alexandra's Smile

Caitlyn - The Big Sister

Caitlyn, my darling, watching you become a big sister has been fascinating.  You're a fabulous big sister.  You love Alex, and you're great with her.  Whenever she cries, you shake her rattle for her, or sing her a song.  You seem so grown up now.  This morning, you went into the bathroom to put your hair clips in by yourself, but then, I watched you look up and go on your tip toes to turn off the light, and all of a sudden, you're my little girl again.  Tonight, we took you trick or treating for the first time.  You were an adorable little penguin.  I thought you'd be shy, but you went right up to the first door and said, "Trick or treat" and then, "Thank you" after you got your candy.  As we left the first home you said we could go home now.  When we explained that we could go to lots of houses for candy, your face lit up.  I think you have a new favorite holiday!  When you came home, you helped to hand out candy to the kids who came to our house.  You were very first-born about it.  You got a sucker and a chocolate and set them aside and told me the sucker was for the girl, and the chocolate was for the kid.  After a few kids, you came to me and said you were ready for bed.  Your dad & I were so proud of you!!

broccoli popsicle

We were making broccoli for dinner and Caitlyn wanted to help. So, we set a bowl on the kitchen table and she helped me pour the frozen broccoli in. I turned away for a minute and when I turned back she was taking a bite out of a piece of frozen broccoli. When I asked her what she was doing she said it was a broccoli popsicle!

early in the morning

This morning at about 6:30am we heard Caitlyn's door open. She padded across the hall, and gently opened our door. Steffan said, "Caity, go back to bed for a little bit, it's not time to get up yet." Caitlyn replied, "Alright, sure" and crawled back into bed for another half hour.

our neighbours

We were getting ready to leave the house & Caity saw the neighbours through the window. She asked who it was & I told her it was our neighours.

Later that evening, she was asking for things without saying please, so I said, "Caitlyn, you need to say please. Your manners have gone out the window." To which she asked, "With the neighbours?"

Last night when I got home we got talking about Caitlyn's day. I asked her what was for supper and she said, "asana". I asked her to repeat it several times, and was still totally baffled. I asked her to show me & she took me down to the kitchen & proudly presented the lasagna.

New Baby!

Caitlyn is very proud to announce the arrival of her new baby sister, Alexandra Paige.  Little Alex joined our family in a hurry on August 30, 2010 at 12:55 am.  She weighed 5 lbs 14 oz, and was 18 1/2" long.  We're all home now and doing really well.  Cailtyn loves her baby sister, but is disappointed that she's not interested in drawing with her yet.   I'm really going to try posting again, but I've said that before, so I'm sure that statement doesn't make anybody sit on the edge of their seats and hold their breath!  For now, we're working on sleeping, eating, and making the sure that the original princess still get enough love and attention.

a beautiful girl!

Karmyn: Caity, you're cute as a button
Caitlyn: No, I a beautiful girl

singing

In church, Caitlyn wanted to go up to Sunday school during singing. I told her there would probably be one more song and then she could go up. When the song ended, she said, "Next song, Twinkle Twinkle Star" and started singing.

The other day in the van, I turned on the talk radio station. Caity asked, "What's that noise?"
I said that it was the radio. She said, "I can't like the radio. Dance music."
So I switched it to a music station and she started dancing.

cuckle blanket

Caitlyn's been gradually cleaning the stuffed animals out of her bed. The last two nights, just before I leave her for the night, she'd handed me a stuffed animal & asked me to take it away "to the toybox". I, of course, have complied.

Two nights ago, she asked me to take her "cuckle blanket" (her little blankie) away. A little while later she started crying. Steffan went up & she asked for her cuckle blanket. He asked, "Well, where is it?" To which she responded, "Mama take it"

Last night she again asked me to take her blankie. Around 2:30am she started crying. I went in & handed her the blankie. She grabbed it, rolled onto her side and said, "thank you".

let's jump!

Wednesday, Caity wanted me to jump with her in the backyard. I told her that the baby doesn't like to jump. She said, "That's okay, I take baby". She put her hand on my tummy, and then on hers, and said that she'd hold the baby so I could jump.

Good clapping!

Dad (my dad, Caitlyn's grandpa) built a balance beam in the backyard for Caitlyn last weekend.

When she got across it we all clapped. She bowed & said, "Thank you, thank you... good clapping guys" & then clapped for us.

my modest girl

Last weekend, we were at mom & dads and they had a kiddie pool. Caitlyn wanted to wear her swimsuit to go in, but wanted her jeans on. So, my very modest little girl went in the pool with jeans, a long sleeve shirt, and a cute pink swim suit over top. I guess there are worse problems than over-modesty!

Shake & Bake

Last night when I walked in the door after work Caity said, "Shake & Bake - I help."

I'm thinking the girl's ready for commercials!

Crossing the street

On our walk the other day we came to a street and I asked her to hold my hand while we crossed. She shook her head, saying, "I fine, I safe, no hand." I told her that she might be safte, but I needed her to keep me safe. So she pulled me close & held my hand in both of hers and clung to me as we crossed the street. I was completely safe in her hands!

You are my sunshine, my only...

On our walk the other day, she looked at me and said, "I you sunshine". I wasn't sure what she meant, and then started singing, "I you sunshine, I make you happy, skies are grey"

A beautiful day

This morning when Caity came into our room she asked as she does every morning, "Papa, where are you?" This was followed by a search & finding him.

She then pronounced, "I'm going to check if it is nice outside" which she did and then pronounced the day beautiful. Who needs the weather channel or weather network? Not us!

Taking a break

While we were making muffins last week Caity was helping stir all of the ingredients together. After stirring for a couple minutes she told me, "Mama, rest a bit."
She then went and laid on the bottom stair... it is hard work making muffins!

Lovely

This morning at about 6:30am we heard Caitlyn's door open, her pad across the hall, and gently open our bedroom door. Stef said, "Caity, go back to bed for a little bit. It's not time to get up yet." Caitlyn replied, "Alright, sure" and crawled back into bed for another half hour. How lovely!

A nice day

I took the little miss to Spruce Meadows on Saturday since it was such a lovely day.

Caity: It's a nice day!

Karmyn: Yes, it's beautiful.

Caity: No, not beautiful. A nice day.

Bath toys

Caity was in the bath the other night and decided that she was ready to get out. The rule is that before she can get out of the bathtub she needs to clean up all of her toys.

Caity: Mama, will you help me clean up the toys?
Karmyn: I'll help you if you help me.

She refused and sulked for a few minutes

Karmyn: Caity, are you ready to help me now?
Caity: I guess not

We sat awhile longer until she was ready to help put them away.

Rock muffins

Last week Caitlyn was helping me make chocolate chip muffins. As it was getting close to her bedtime I didn't want her eating any chocolate so I told her they were cocoa muffins. When we poured the chocolate chips into the batter I asked her if she knew what they were. She responded "mmmm... rocks" So, of course, they were rock muffins.

That's awesome!

This past weekend we went to the zoo with the little miss. We walked the entire zoo over 5 hours and thruout Caity found every puddle to walk thru, jump into, and stand in the middle of and stamp her feet. It was a good time!

We were about finished when she found another puddle that she stood at the edge of and then jumped in - both feet at once. It was much deeper than it looked and gave a fantastic splash. Her look of shock was quickly replaced by joy and she stated "that's awesome!" We, of course thought that was hilarious so she kept saying "that's awesome!" and would dissolve into giggles.

She's pretty awesome!

I can't like it

Last night we had chicken for dinner and Caity refused to eat it
Caity: I can't like the chicken Mama
Karmyn: Yes you can
Caity, shaking her head: I can't like the chicken

Echo Echo

We painted Caity's room pink this past weekend.
Once the painting was all done she came in and said, "Oh pink! Beautiful!"
She then proceeded to start screaming "Echo! Echo! Echo!"
She will be so sad once we move some furniture in there...

Paint Swatches

Well today begins a series of short cute stories about the little miss. And well, there are plenty of stories since she is just so darn cute! Keep checking back - you just never know what she is going to do next...

We have decided to keep Caitlyn's room as the nursery for our new addition and change the office into Caitlyn's new room. In preparation for this we thought it might be fun to let her pick the color of her new room. Her initial choice - a browny yellow - was vetoed (it's great being the parents!) and then she was provided with a limited selection of colors.

As she tried to decide on her favorite she would take a paint swatch, hold it up to the wall and comment, "ummmm, let's see". Put down the paint swatch and move onto the next, with another, "ummmm, let's see". Her final choice was pink (named impatiens) - how great for one small girl!
