The Mommy Guilt
Yesterday I went into work for a few hours to discuss my return. We discussed it and decided I'd leave Alex at home as a bit of a trial run. I've only ever left her for 1/2 an hour or so while I run out to get milk, so I was a little nervous.
Caitlyn: Mama, where are you going?
Me: To work for a little bit.
Caitlyn: Please, I come?
Me: No, sweetheart, I'm sorry, you need to stay here and help Papa take care of Alex.
Caitlyn: But, I will miss you.
Me: I know, but you'll be okay, and you'll have fun with Papa
Caitlyn: But, I will be sad.
Me: I'll be home soon
Caitlyn: But, I will cry!
After I finally left the drama queen, I had a good meeting at work. But, things at home didn't go so smoothly. Alex decided she did not like the fact that I left, refused to take a bottle and yelled for 3 hours in protest. So, it appears we all have a little work to do in the next 6 weeks before I go back to work!

New Year - for Caitlyn
What a difference a year makes...
Caity, my Caity....what a year we've had. You were two for most of the year, and let's just say, my spirited child, that you are very good at being two. You definitely have your own ideas about the world, and you don't understand why it doesn't always work out the way you think it should.
You are an amazing little girl. Everyday you say or do something that makes your daddy and I look at each other and say, "Where did she learn that?".
You and I have so much fun together, especially baking. The other day we made carrot muffins again, after not making them for a month or so, and as I was about to add the raisins, you said to me, "Don't we need to give them a bath?". I have to admit, I use your memory to my advantage. When we go to the store, if I've forgotten to add something to the list, I tell you, and you remember it for me!
It's been fun watching you become a big sister. You're fiercely protective and proud of Alex. She's very lucky to have you.
I love you, my princess!
New Year - for Alex
My little chunky monkey. I haven't written much about you, but I guess it's because you are an easy baby. You sleep well, you eat well, and you grin like crazy. We thought you were going to start sleeping through the night, but you were just teasing us. You're still up once a night, but it's only once, so that's okay. In the mornings, after Caitlyn wakes up, I usually bring you into my bed and we snuggle and doze for another hour. It's my favorite part of the day. You're eating like a champ, and you have the chubbiest thighs to prove it.
You have a beautiful smile, and you love to show it off. You're always smiling when I get you from a nap or get you out of the dreaded car seat.
Every once in a while, you get yourself a little too excited, and then we wrap you up tight and you smile up at us, like you're saying, "Oh, thank you for putting me back together!".
I love you, my zen baby. I'm super curious to see your personality come through more and more.
